hello everyone.
Valentino got retiredabout a week ago.
how he's allowed to be a regular pet for the resst of his life. :)
now i wonder;
does anyone have any tips and tricks to share about changing dogs??
anything would be apreciated.
greetings from Ran.
You'll just have to get used to another dog. Usually when guide dogs retire, it's hard to get a new guide dog.
i don't know what the person above me in this cue is talking about. I have never heard of anyone experiencing dificulties getting a new dog after the one they had retired.
I've never had a dog,. I'm going on 08/-09/10 to get one at GDB. I have gotten new pets and I imagine it is not that different.
The biggest thing to remember is that it is not a replacement dog. It is a new animal. Lock your prejudices away and enjoy its new quirks and good points.
Remember when you get to the school, that you might go through a shortened grieving process. GDB has a special class for people getting a seccond or whatever dog. They talk a lot about feelings and what to expect.
I don't think she ment it was hard to get. I think she means it will be hard adjusting to a new dog and I'm sure it will. I've had my dog a month and a half and I can't see myself with a different one. I've heard the hardest thing is getting a new guide. People often think no dog can measure up to your first, but just give the new a chance and try not to compare. it will be a completely different dog with its own little ways of doing things. work together and i'm sure you'll become a great team like you and your first.
i'll go to get my next guide dog tomorrow :) woohoo!!
i've med him, and i've already fallen for him.
he is much more the type of dog i wanted... my other one was waaay to laid bakc :p
so i look forward to it! and that's all i know ;)
Congratulations! How long is the training for your new dog?
